Some perspective on BRob
According to pro football reference, excluding QBs:
Brob had the ~30th best yards before contact at 2.0 per attempt of which he shared the spot with other running backs
Ekeler at 3 yards before contact per attempt which would put him at 5th best.
Brob on yards after contact per attempt is at ~15th best at 2.3 of which he shared 2.3 average with a few other running backs.
Ekeler was way down the list and I lost count at 1.8 YAC per attempt.
Now these are just the quick and dirty numbers, there’s obviously way more nuance to them such as OL efficiency, personnel, play call, etc
But taking the numbers by themselves what I surmise is that BRob runs hard but there’s something keeping him from as efficient as ekeler when the ball is snapped.
Is it a vision thing, reluctance, athleticism? I trust the coaching staff to do a deeper dive into the film and pull the threads that will explain the numbers. But I think BRob can be a consistent 1200 yard plus RB the next year or two if he can figure out the running part while he’s still behind his lineman.
