Dog bite laceration on lips and face: Healing stages 2 weeks
I was bit my a friend’s pitbull last month. I wasn’t antagonizing nor playing with the dog. I don’t even like dogs.
I was kneeling over the floor, and the dog ran up to my face and attacked me. It happened so fast, I didn’t even feel pain. I pulled back instinctively, as my friend pulled the dog away from me. The blood came seconds later.
It’s a miracle I don’t have permanent damage, nor any deformities. The dog didn’t latch, and was put down the following week, after attacking two more people after me. This dog was considered “friendly and never aggressive” by the owner.
I’m posting this so others can reference my healing journey and hopefully it can give reassurance to those who were just bit.
Must do’s:
-Go to Urgent Care and get stitches. You’ll probably need them even if you think you don’t.
-If you don’t have a tetanus vaccine, get a shot.
-Confirm with owner if the dog has been vaccinated for rabies. If it has not, get a rabies shot NO MATTER THE COST.
-Take antibiotics. I included mine in the photos. Keep the wound lubricated. I used Aquaphor.
If you’re reading this because this happened to you, I’m sorry. I hope you can heal and look/feel normal again. I am so so so grateful that I healed completely. It’s a miracle and I know most aren’t as fortunate to walk away with stitches and no permanent marks.
For reference, it took about a month for the stitches to dissolve and I don’t have any visible scars. It took two weeks to speak without a lisp, look less swollen, and eat normally.
