Overheard on Town Lake

Last week I went for a walk on the Town Lake Trail (aka the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail and Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake - ugh!) and I forgot my earbuds. No podcasts for me!

I quickly realized that as I was passing (or getting passed by) pairs or groups of people, I had a very brief time where I could overhear fragments of conversations that were quite interesting. I don't have any context beyond what I have here, so some them are open to interpretation... Here are a few of my favorites:

  • "...then they call and wake me up at 3 or 4 in the morning and say 'we have a bunch of deer steaks. We're bringing them over. Get out the frying pan...' "
  • "...and they didn't know the rules, so it was a very strange power dynamic"
  • "...it looks so easy for them too, but then they go in like five fucking minutes..."
  • "...rubbing his whole body on the ground..."
  • "...I might have to get to work on that today..."
  • "...amenities were great. It had like a pool and a gym and that really adds up..."
  • Person 1: "he's already in the group chat?" Person 2: "Yeah, this is when all the tea is about to break loose, and it's like 2 weeks out from spring break at this point."
  • "It's so easy to say such-and-such is non-dairy"
  • Person 1: "It's free. It's free." Person 2: "I know, I know. But that's really not my scene."
  • "...threw up on the bar..."
