AIO by getting upset at my boyfriend for interrupting my livestream?
I (27F) am a full-time content creator streaming on Kick and make $14k a month, 100% of my income from streaming. I've built up a dedicated community over the past few years and many of my viewers feel a personal connection to me and my content.
Recently, my boyfriend (29M) walked into my streaming room while I was live to ask me something. I got pretty upset with him afterward because part of my stream's appeal is the parasocial relationship my viewers have with me. Having my bf randomly appear on stream ruins that illusion for some viewers who imagine a different kind of connection.
I tried explaining this to him - that this is my job and livelihood, and maintaining certain boundaries helps me be successful. He thinks I'm being ridiculous and said I'm prioritizing "fake relationships" over our real one. He also pointed out that most of my viewers know I have a boyfriend anyway.
I get his perspective, but I feel like he's not respecting my work boundaries. This isn't just a hobby - it's how I pay our bills. I've asked him before to text me if he needs something while I'm streaming.
So reddit, AIO for getting mad about this? I feel torn between maintaining my stream's appeal and making my boyfriend feel welcome in our shared space.
