Accounting; WFH vs. In Office

Its unclear to me why any accountant would ever need to come into an office at all at this point in the technological revolution timeline.

I can understand employees coming in to the office to get out of the house or have a focused place to work. I totally get that.

But in terms of requiring an accountant to come in, that I do not understand.

Is it not the case that everything an accountant does can be done from home? To the extent we meet with people, is that not something that can easily be done over a zoom call?

It feels like accountants spend all day at their desk with headphones in working in excel not talking to anyone. Why make someone come in and do that in person?

I am wondering what I am missing. So I am coming here to ask you guys how you feel about it. I am surprised to learn that many accountants still have in office requirements. So please inform me- do you find some utility in that as a team? Does that make you better at your job? Is it just a burden?

I am talking strictly work related. Like I said, I get coming into the office for personal reasons. And you can always make connections and team build at work events and happy hours etc. I am talking about the work you do as accountants.

Thanks :)
