Connecting UHD Blu Ray Player to Smart TV
So I’m very illiterate when it comes to all the conversions and upscaling and whatnot.
The basic gist is I just got my first UHD player (Panasonic UB820). I have a Sony A80J smart tv. My sound setup is stereo sound with bookshelf speakers.
I plugged the Panasonic directly into my smart tv using HDMI port 1, my only free port. I’ve read varying things about whether this port supports Dolby and whatnot. When I go into my Sony tv settings to check stuff, I get the message to “Reconnect the device to HDMI port 3.”
Does this mean HDMI port 3 is the only one that will support the UHD? (During playback, Picture Settings still gives me DV Light and Dark as options even with HDMI port 1, but I’m not noticing any real change from standard format discs).
My understanding is this needs to be directly connected to the tv and should not be routed through a receiver due to conversions. I have a Yamaha RX-V385 connected in HDMI 3 and don’t think that should be moved because of the ARC comparability, to my limited understanding. My bookshelf speakers are connected to the Yamaha as well, and the Sony usually outputs any audio to those speakers regardless of where the audio source comes from.
So in short is my UHD player okay in A80J’s HDMI port 1? If not, how do I need to arrange the connections? (I don’t want to undo the current HDMI port 4 either since my ps5 has that for gaming)
Appreciate any help
